Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting

Book 2 in The Body Finder series by Kimberly Derting. It starts off right after book one ends. Violet's gift leads her to a shipping container in Seattle. She literally cannot sleep or have any sort or regular day until this body that is "calling" to her is found. So she calls in a annonymous tip. The body of a missing boy is found and then before Violet can blink an eye the FBI is knocking on her door wanting to know how she knew the body was in there. In the meantime life with her boyfriend Jay is going well. A new family moves to town and Jay and Mike become best friends. Violet starts receiving threatening letters. Will she find out who is sending the letters? What about the FBI? What are they going to do to Violet?

I thought this was a GREAT book! Maybe its her writing style or maybe its the fact that Violet finds bodies that draws me so much to this book. But I LOVE them! I seriously devour them! Like I've said it reminds me of the Harper Connelly series by Charlaine Harris and I LOVED those. So if you want a different spin to paranormal check these out!

I rated 5 stars. Because this book held my attention the whole way through!

Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon

I LOVE LOVE LOVED THIS BOOK! From the start I was sucked into Megan Rosenberg's story. I really don't know how to review it without it containing a ton of spoilers and I don't want to do that!

Megan moves to Ireland with her dad when he accepts a job offer. From the beginning she feels the best about this place. Like this is where they are supposed to be. They move around a lot since her mom died. (Megan and her mother were in an accident and Megan survived. Her mother did not) Her first day of school she sees Adam and its basically a love at first sight. Megan begans to make friends at her new school. They all tell her that there is rumors that Adam and his family are witches and that their lands are cursed. After what seems like forever and a run in with some other local kids (think Halloween and raw eggs) her and Adam finally admit their feelings for each other. Adam tells her the truth about what he really is and throws a bombshell at her.

You wanna know what that bombshell is??? READ THE BOOK.

5 star rating. Because I found myself wanting to read rather then facebook or watch tv!

Book of Shadows by Cate Tiernan (Book 1 in Sweep series)

Book one in The Sweep Series. I REALLY enjoyed it! Its a super short book and for me a very fast read. Its about a young teenage girl who gets introduced to Wicca and learns she is special. Think Magickal special. I think if I say too much I would give away things in the book you find out when you read. So with that being said Its a good book and I'm looking forward to book 2. I think it is geared for the YA genre. If you like books about Witches give this one a go!

Rated 4 stars!

P.S. Sorry the last few reviews have been so short. I got behind and wanted to hurry up and post so I didn't forget!

This is a short story written by Jennifer Malone Wright. I felt like the story was just starting when it ended. I really liked the character and am very excited to pick up book 2 and read it.
Chloe witness her mothers murder and learns she is a direct descendant of a long line of Vampire Hunters and that her mother was one of the best ones out there until she did the un-thinkable and fell in love with a vampire.

GREAT book!

You're The One That I Haunt by Terri Garrey

Book 3 in the Nikki Styx series. It begins where book 2 leaves off. The Devil is still up to his antics trying to get Nikki to go to the dark side. He decides to make life a lot harder by getting a ghost involved who is basically pissed off at the world and wants revenge. The revenge is going to hurt her beloved Doctor boyfriend Joe. He is facing a lawsuit and losing his job. Nikki cannot let that happen so she is trying to make a deal with the ghost and try to help her.
Its a good book and very entertaining. I like this series though! Can't wait for book 4 :)

Tiger's Voyage by Colleen Houck

This is the 3rd book in the Tiger Series by Colleen Houck. It begins where book 2 leaves off. I am a HUGE fan of this series. And this book was No exception! I LOVED it just as much as I loved book one and book two. I was a bit bummed about some of Kelsey's decisions but I admired her for sticking to her guns and doing everything she could to keep her promises. The whole book had me at the edge of my seat. And once the Dragons were introduced I didn't want to put the book down because I HAD to know what was going to happen! Colleen is a Wonderful story teller. They way she weaves fiction and legend into a story makes it so exciting and fun! The book ends with a HUGE cliffhanger and you are left wanting the next book NOW! I can't wait for book 4. I really think I will be in a book store first thing when it comes out so I can start reading it! If you haven't read the series What are you waiting for? Go pick it up and start!

The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa

What can I say about this book?

Other then the fact that I LOVED it! I love this series so much and am saddened that this is the last one but I will admit I am happy with the way it ended. Because in all honestly who doesn't want the Happily Ever After in all books?

This is in Ash's point of view. Not the usual Meghan's point of view. So I enjoyed the difference. Ash has to return to Meghan in the Iron Kingdom but doing so will kill him so he decides he is just going to go get himself a soul and become human. With his trusty sidekick Puck and Grim (the sarcastic cat)they embark on a crazy adventure that puts them up against monsters and a journey to the end of the world. Along the way they gain 2 more friends who accompany them. One who is someone everyone thinks is long dead. The other an enemy that has promised that the Prince will arrive to his destination safely. The monsters alone (well the description of them) make this book seem a little darker. I mean I like to think I have a good imagination but some of the stuff in here was pretty scary! (at least to me)

If you haven't read the Iron Fey series I urge you to do so NOW! What are you waiting for!?

I rated 5 stars!

Life's That Way by Jim Beaver

Jim Beaver plays Bobby Singer on the CW TV show "Supernatural". It is one of my most favorite shows on television. I buy every season and I make sure to tune in every Friday night. To watch my beloved Winchester brothers go against whatever evil they are facing this week. Bobby is like a father to them. There helping, giving advice or just offering a drink when needed. He really helps make the show what it is. He is only on the show occasionally but man those episodes are always good.

Reading this book has been one of the HARDEST things I have done. One minute Jim has me laughing and the next I am crying so hard I think it warrants the dreaded "Ugly Face Cry" This book is a wonderful dedication to his wife Cecily. He started writing the emails when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. Which is where it gets hard for me. My own mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer back when I was 17. So basically reading this was kind of like reliving everything my mom went through. I remember her losing her hair. I remember her being in pain and I remember being in the hospital room with her when she passed away. There are so many similarities with Jim's feelings and the way I felt back then. Its been 12 years for me and time has made it easier but I never will forget and I never will stop missing or loving her! I love how in some emails he concludes "No bye bye" and my favorite was the "Good Morning, Good Morning" song that he sings to his daughter Maddie. Every email seems to impress me more and his ability to be human and have feelings and not be afraid to express them. I love that he freely says "I can't do it" or "I broke down today".
Yes this book is sad but it really is worth the read. There are so many good points he makes in the book that I think everyone should know. Read the book. Especially if you have lost someone to Cancer. Yes it will be hard and yes have tissues but really just knowing that someone else knows how you feel and its in writing can make all the difference!
Thank you Jim for saying what needed to be said that nobody else would say!

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting

Wow! I REALLY liked this book! From the beginning I was sucked in. Violet is a teenager with a special gift. She can find dead bodies. Human or animal. Each body has a different imprint sometimes its noises sometimes tastes. There is a serial killer on the loose in her small town and Violet starts finding bodies. Jay is her best friend since grammer school and over the summer he has changed A LOT. And all the girls in school are noticing him now. Especially Violet. She doesn't want to ruin their friendship but this crush she has on him is not going away. What will happen with hers and Jay's relationship now that her feelings are more then just friends? By the end of the book she is being hunted and the serial killer has decided she will be his next victim. Will Violet be able to find the killer before he finds her?

This book was really good. And it reminds me a lot of The Harper Connelly Series by Charlaine Harris. It is different though so its definitely worth the read. Can't wait to read the 2nd book!

I rated 4 stars!

The Gathering by Kelley Armstrong

This is the second book I have read by Kelley Armstrong. The first being "The Summoning". This book had rave reviews from lots of friends so when I saw it at the library I snatched it up. My library is always running out of books in this genre so when I see something I want to read I grab it. Because if not and I come back chances are I'm SOL.

This book was ok. It wasn't awful but it wasn't great. And it wasn't a book I couldn't put down. Because I did put it down and didn't read for a few days at a time. I guess it just didn't hold my interest as some other books. It wasn't bad. The ending was the best with all the action and excitement. The beginning was a lot of guessing (at least for me) as to what you thought was going to happen. You could kind of figure out where the story was going but until they actually said you weren't sure. The ending leaves you knowing that there will be at least another book if not more. She has to finish telling the story and one book wasn't enough. Will I read the next book? Probably. I can't start a series and not finish. But I won't spend my money on it. I will borrow from a friend or go to the library. I'm hoping I am wrong and that the next books are so awesome that I can't put them down and I run out and buy them.

I rated this book 3 stars.

Learning by Karen Kingsbury

Book 2 in the Bailey Flanigan series.

It takes off literally where the other leaves off. In this book Bailey struggles with Broadway and almost loses her job. Doesn't matter how hard she works seems like she can't keep up. One of the girls she is in the show with clearly has an eating disorder and Bailey begs her to get help. She catches her taking pills and tries to tell the director who basically tells her to "mind her own business" The girl collapses and dies leaving Bailey feeling guilty and that she has let God down. In the mean time Cody Coleman is turning a football teams life around. They go from losing games to winning games. Cheyenne is recovering well from her accident and is amazing doctors everyday. Cody realizes his feelings are more then just friendship and they decide to see only each other. Bailey and Brandon also decide to be more serious and see each other.

The book literally just ends so you know there is more coming. I think the next book is Longing and after that Loving. I like Karen Kingsbury's writing style she keeps me entertained and I fly through them.

I rated 4 stars.

Tigers Quest by Colleen Houck

I'm a new fan and was so excited to be able to read this book right after reading book one.

I really don't know how to review this book without giving stuff away and I want people to read it!

Kelsey is living in Oregon and going to college. She has had a Nightmare date or two and a couple of good ones. She keeps in touch with Mr. Kadam and is still trying to work on breaking the curse. She still misses Ren and can't get him out of her mind. Then Ren moves to Oregon because he can't stand to be away from her any more. Kelsey is seeing someone else and has to choose between the 2. Kelsey finally admits that she is in love with Ren. And they start being a couple. Kishan comes too after Ren sends for him. Lokesh has found Kelsey! A heart pumping escape puts Kelsey on the next quest to find the next pieces to help break the curse. Can Kelsey get her Tiger back?

Again a 5 star rating. I really didn't want to give too much a way with my review so heres my advice if you haven't read book one read it and if you like it you will love this book.
Until next time...

Leaving by Karen Kingsbury (Book 1 of the Bailey Flanigan Series)

What is it about Karen Kingsbury's books that make me cry? I mean we are talking UGLY FACE Cry! Maybe I'm emotional or sappy or sentimental. Whatever. I love Karen Kingsbury for writing books that touch your heart! Her books are full of joy and sadness at the same time. Yes this is a Christian Fiction book. And I like reading them because well they are good reads and for me her writing style makes it a fast read as well. I start reading them and get so into the story I don't put them down or before I know it I've just read 5 chapters.

This is the first book in the Bailey Flanigan Series. It is also a continuation of the Baxter Family series. Which were WONDERFUL books and I loved all of them. I think I read the first 5 of the series in about a weeks time. Then finished another 5 lol. Anyway Bailey Flanigan is trying to make it as a Christian Actor/Dancer. She won a roll in a movie called "Unlocked" (which Karen Kingsbury has a book by the same name) She is in love with Cody Coleman and they have broken up. She is heartbroken and confused about all of it. The whole book is pretty much about how much she loves him and misses him. In the movie Unlocked she stars with a guy named Brandon Paul who is a new believer and claims to be in love with Bailey. Bailey is very torn about what to do. Months after her breakup with Cody she starts feeling like maybe something could happen with Brandon but doesn't know yet. She gets offered a roll in the Broadway Musical "Hairspray" and is going to move to New York. What will happen with Cody and Brandon and who will she choose? And will her light shine brightly for Jesus on Broadway?

I rated 4 stars because it did keep me entertained and I will read the next 3 in this series of books.

Q&A with Jennifer Malone Wright author of The Birth of Jaiden!

Q. How do you come up with your stories?
Jennifer: My stories usually start with just an image or an idea. But, really, everything gives me ideas for the stories. Most of the time the original idea evolves into something much different than I had originally intended it to be.
Q. Who inspires you?
Jennifer: I’m inspired by great authors like Anne Rice, Stephen King and Nora Roberts. I know that these are authors that everyone says they are inspired by…but I guess they are inspiration for so many because they are really that good and we would all like to be like them. They have all inspired me for different reasons though, like…Anne Rice, her attention to detail makes you feel like you are walking right beside the characters and feeling what they feel, smelling what they smell. Not everyone can pull that off with such perfection.
Q. Does writing come easily for you?
Jennifer: Yes and no. This is a tough question because writing does come easily to me in some ways. I get tons of ideas, I don’t have a problem creating characters or world building, but I do have problems figuring out plot sometimes. The creative part is easy for me, it’s just the technical part of writing that I don’t like. The editing and all that is something I constantly struggle with, I’m not very good at it and am always learning to make myself better.
Q. If you could meet one author who would it be, and why?
Jennifer: I think if I was to pick one author it would be Nora Roberts. That woman has sooooo many books out, I want to know how she does it. I love, love, love her stories and I’m not normally a romance reader, but Nora Roberts usually entwines a bit of paranormal into her stories and that is my favorite genre. I have a ton of questions I’d like to ask her too.
Q. How was writing The Birth of Jaiden different than writing your other books?
Jennifer: Well, The Birth of Jaiden was my first book, the only other ones out are my short story series on ebook only called The Vampire Hunter’s Daughter. I’d say the differences between those was obviously, The Birth of Jaiden is a novel whereas the others are short stories. Also The Birth of Jaiden was written in the third person. The Birth of Jaiden has a lot of characters it follows around too, so that was really different for me. But, really I don’t have anything else to compare it to.
Q. What books do you like to read?
Jennifer: I will normally read anything I can get my hands on. But, my preference is paranormal thrillers and paranormal romance. Anything with a paranormal twist is great. I’m not really that picky.
Q. What is your favorite book?
Jennifer: This is a hard question for me because I don’t have a favorite anything. I’ve been asked this quite a bit about what is my favorite book, who is my favorite author, what is my favorite song and I can’t answer because it’s always changing. If I had to pick one book though, that I read when I was young that I still love, it would be The Stand, by Stephen King.
Thank you Jennifer for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer all these questions.
If you are interested in the giveaway please respond to this post. You have until Wed October 5th to do so then I will pick 2 winners. One for a free ebook and one for a free bookmark.

Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck

The old saying "Never judge a book by its cover" is really true. When I first heard of this series I didn't think I would be interested. I'm pretty picky about what I read. And if I don't feel like reading it well I don't read it. However I kept seeing people talk about it and rave about it. So I thought what the heck! I'll give it a try. And boy am I ever so glad I did. This has to be one of my new favorite series that I have read. Its so different and interesting then any of the other books I have read. I'm seriously kicking myself thinking "Why haven't I read this sooner?" I love Ren in my mind he is one dreamboat of a man err I mean Tiger. Let me give you a little info about it.

Kelsey's parents were killed in a car wreck so she is living in a foster home with some wonderful people. She puts in for a job and starts working at the circus helping take care of a Tiger. While there she starts bonding with this tiger and then learns he will be sold to a reserve in India. She is asked to accompany the Tiger back to India. She accepts and then learns that she is there to help break a 300 year old curse. Will Kelsey be able to help break Ren's Curse? And what kind of adventures and trials will take place?

I rated this 5 stars. It really did keep me interested and entertained!

Don't Breathe A Word by Jennifer McMahon

How in the world do I review this book? I'll do my best.

This book had to be the strangest yet most intriguing book I have ever read. From the beginning I was sucked in and wondering what would happen next. 15 years ago Lisa went missing from the woods behind her house. It is said that the woods are haunted. The only thing that remains are foundations from a town that existed long ago. Legend has it everyone who lived in the town just vanished one day and only one baby boy was left behind. He grew up to be the town Doctor and was Lisa's Great-Grandfather. They also say that fairies live in those woods and to never believe a fairy because they lie. Phoebe is in love with Sam (Sam is Lisa's brother) and has strange dreams of a shadow man. Sam is hardheaded and has a realistic view of the world so to believe that the strange occurrences are just those and not have anything to do with The Land of the Fairies or Teilo the Fairy king is a bit far fetched for him.

In the end secrets are revealed that I know I wasn't expecting and it left me saying OH MY GOSH. I hope the author is writing a follow up. I MUST know what happens!

I rated this a 4 star. Because it really did hold my attention. And the ending. WOW. I don't want to give any spoilers but what a CRAZY way to end it! Good Job Jennifer. I think you have a new fan in me!

A Match Made in Hell by Terry Garey

This is book 2 in the Nikki Styx series. In book 1 Nikki has a brush with death that leaves her with the ability to hear and see ghosts. Book 2 continues Nikki's story. Nikki gets visited by a ghost who has a daughter that has been in an accident. The Ghost wants Nikki to help find her daughter whose car has went off a cliff. Nikki gets to the daughter just in time only to learn its her twin sister and the ghost was her birth Mother. Nikki's twin sister Kelly can also see spirits too! They learn they have a Grandmother that lives in Savannah and she asks them to come visit. Soon they both agree to visit this Grandmother and find out answers about their past and about their mother. They arrive at the house and find out it is really haunted and full of secrets. They have a run in with a few ghosts and the devil himself! Can Nikki and Kelly make it out? And will the be able to resist the devil?
I rated this 3. I liked the book and will continue on the series. For me they are fast reads and easy!

If you haven't heard about this book they are making a series out of it on the CW that premieres on September 15th. The same night as the Vampire Diaries season premiere. So I wanted to read it because I wanted to see just how different it would end up on the tv screen.

Here is my review which may contain some spoilers so read at your own risk!

Cassie is forced to move from Sunny California where all her friends are and what she considers "home" to New Salem, Massachuetts to move in with her Grandmother who is becoming older and cannot live alone. Cassie is not one bit happy about this and longs for her old life. She meets a stranger on a beach and saves him from Jocks who wish him harm. She feels a connection with him. Thinking she'll never see him again she moves to New Salem. Cassie decides to make due with her situation. Her first day of school she has run ins with "The Club" a group of teens in her school everyone seems to be afraid of. Students and teachers alike. But Cassie feels drawn to them. Cassie meets Diana and becomes Diana's "Little Sister" and Diana takes her under her wing. A tragedy takes place and Cassie is inducted into the club. Where the guy she saved on the beach returns and she finds out its Diana's love interest. The Club members are direct descendants of witches from Salem. And Cassie learns she has powers. Murders and accidents start taking place and everyone is pointing the finger. WHO or WHAT is killing these people?

I gave it 3 stars because I like the book. It isn't my favorite of all time but it is my 2nd time reading it. (First time in High School over 10 years ago)

MY review of Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella

First off I just have to say that I LOVE Sophie Kinsella. Her Shopaholic books are some of my favorite chick lit. And this was no exception. Lara Lington is a girl from London, England. She is going to a funeral for a Great Aunt she has never met. Sadie Lancaster died at 105 of natural causes in the nursing home she lived in. Everyone seems really put out but going to this funeral for a "105 year old nobody" Lara starts seeing Sadie and she thinks she is going crazy. Sadie is going on and on about a necklace and that she can't rest without it. Yes Sadie is a ghost! And only Lara can see her! So at this point she stops the funeral after agreeing to help Sadie find her necklace. Lara isn't having the greatest life at the moment. She just broke up with her beloved boyfriend Josh and the company she runs with her best friend Natalie is going down the tube. They are headhunters which means they try to place people who are in jobs in better ones etc. And now she is seeing a ghost! So Sadie follows her around and will not leave her alone. Lara begins the hunt for the necklace and in the process meets the man of her dreams (thanks to Sadie) finds out a HUGE family scandal that leaves her Uncle Bill of the Lington coffee( kind of like a starbucks) a laughing stock and leaves starts her own head hunting company that is starting out awesome!

Want to know everything that happens? READ THE BOOK :)
I gave the book a 4 star rating :)

My first post

Hi!

I am Amber. Proud Coastie Wife and mom to a beautiful 4 (almost 5) year old boy. I currently live in Jacksonville, FL and am loving it! I am creating this to give my opinions on books and to hopefully get new recommendations on books I will love. I read a lot. And when I say that I mean I read everyday. Reading is a big part of my life just like my family and my friends. I have hundreds of books I want to read. And hope to eventually get to them all. Anyway that's all I can think of for now.

Later,
Amber
